2014 has, for most teams, been more successful than 2013. This season six of our nine teams finished in the top half of their division. Four of these teams finished in the top three. High Legh’s Norley League A team competed in Division 3 of this league, having been promoted from Division 4 last season. They finished in second place and so will be promoted for the second year in a row, this time to the heady heights of Division 2. Well done to Bob Brown and his squad of players and supporters.

The Club finished the season with 11 players with an average points score placing them in the top 15 of the players in their particular league. A creditable result for a Club with only 9 teams and a very special mention here goes to Dirk Broad who finished the season at the top of the averages for his division. He was joined in the top fifteen by Norman Harrison, Maurice Wilson and Dennis Allcock the team captain. Anyone interested in viewing the final results and statistics for all our league teams and individual players can do so through the High Legh Bowling Club website using the "Teams" page.

Club Competitions.

The full programme of club competitions was completed by mid-September. A vote of thanks goes to all those who entered the competitions or who helped in many ways to ensure the smooth running of each event. The strength and vitality of a club can be measured by the level of entries and enthusiasm for these competitions. A new competition, the mixed singles handicap, was introduced into the schedule this season. The results are shown below:

Congratulations to you all and better luck to the rest of us next year. I wouldn’t, however, rely too much on luck, it does tend to level out over a few games.

 Silver Jubilee Celebration.

A day of celebration was held in August to mark the twenty fifth anniversary of the opening of the bowling green. The weather was kind to us and over 120 members, family and special guests tackled bowling based games on the green with a barbecue meal included.

We were very pleased to welcome a number of special guests representing bodies that have supported the bowling club over the years. Lord and Lady Grey (Lord Grey’s father bowled the first bowl at the opening of the green) and the Mayor of Macclesfield (Macclesfield Council supported the club with an interest free loan to finance the building of the green) were joined by representatives of High Legh Community Association, the Parish Council and a number of individuals who have been instrumental in the development of the green. A splash of colour was provided by Lymm Town Crier, Peter Powell, who is a member of the club and ensured that everyone was aware of what was going on. No public address system needed! Feedback from guests suggests that everyone had an enjoyable afternoon with a large number going around the games a number of times.

 Indoor Bowling.

During the winter months we continue to enjoy social indoor bowling at the Village Hall. Our session times at the Village Hall are Wednesday afternoons and on Tuesday evenings. We would welcome any new members interested in joining for the new season.

The Club will continue to field teams in leagues for both short mat and long mat bowling. Our team competing in the Cheshire Villages League had a very successful winter season as reported earlier in the year. The Warrington Indoor long mat league is expanding this year and with guests from Lymm joining us we are fielding two teams in this league.

 Presentation Evening.

The bowling club will be holding our annual dinner and presentation evening at Lymm Golf Club in November. This is always a well attended function and allows the members to celebrate the success and achievement of our teams and individual members.
